Traditional Coastal Meets Modern Serenity on Sandtrap Rd

LOCATION:
Miramar Beach, FL

PROJECT SCOPE:

Starting Point

The Design Vision

My client purchased this beachfront property in 2007. Located just steps away from the white sands of Miramar Beach, this was a dream home. However, inside, the home was anything but a dream. Dated finishes, a closed-off layout, and worn interiors made the space feel more tired than timeless.

After years of considering whether to renovate or sell, the owner nearly let it go—until we walked the property together and reimagined what it could become.

With the right design, he realized he didn’t need to give up the view to get the home he wanted. All it needed was a fresh perspective (and a full gut renovation to bring it to life).

My Creative Process

I partnered with a trusted general contractor team to completely reimagine the space, from the studs up. The owner wanted a more traditional coastal aesthetic, and that inspiration shaped every decision we made.

To steer away from cliché beach house trends, we curated a palette inspired by the natural surroundings—soft sand tones, ocean blues, and airy textures.

We also converted the original garage into a multifunctional entertainment space—complete with a full kitchen and two large bays—one opening toward the Gulf and the other toward the pool. The updated layout connects indoor and outdoor living and makes the home ideal for hosting and relaxing.

We elevated every detail to strike a balance between beauty and ease. Thoughtful structural changes opened up Gulf views, while custom features—like bunk beds, handrails, and a sculptural staircase—brought balance, beauty, and a spa-like sense of calm.

Behind the Design

My Process in Action

From hand-drawn bathroom layouts to detailed electrical markups and curated shopping trips, this project was a genuine collaboration between client and designer.

My client wanted a truly hands-on experience for this project. Rather than finalizing design boards, we met up for shopping trips when they were available to travel. We made in-person, real-time selections and thoughtful edits along the way.

Paired with in-progress visuals and “before” photos, these behind-the-scenes assets offer a glimpse into the transformation, showing just how much care and creativity went into turning a dated beach house into a refined coastal retreat.

A Look at the Completed Design

The finished home is a complete transformation—elevated, inviting, and thoughtfully layered with coastal textures and timeless materials. What was once a dark, dated space is now a light-filled sanctuary that reflects the colors and calm of the beach just beyond its doors.

Every room was reimagined with purpose, from the expansive master suite to the open-concept kitchen and living area that now flows seamlessly with panoramic views of the Gulf.

The garage was transformed into a versatile retreat with a full kitchenette and game space, designed to flow effortlessly between indoor and outdoor living. With one bay opening to the Gulf and the other to the pool, it’s now a central hub for relaxing, entertaining, and making the most of the home’s beachfront setting.
